“Slutišķi” Exhibition at the Old-Believers’ Cultural Heritage Centre
Although long-oppressed Old-Believers traditionally avoided needless attention, today we have been given an opportunity to get a glimpse into this closed and now vanishing world.
An exhibition entitled “Slutišķi” has been installed at the Jermolajev family farm “Upāni” with unique testimonies including a reconstruction of the obligatory prayer room, which is described in an audio recording by its guardian Fedosija, while talkative Isajs is hard at work in the carpenter’s workshop, and the domestic life of days or yore is observed from the shed by Astīte the lamb.
This contemporary exhibition is a vivid testimony to harsh times and courageous folk.
