The exhibition has been created as a narrative in space and time. The narrative is comprised of the exhibition’s contents, starting from the years of Latvia’s first independence and proceeding through a labyrinth of darkness, and the events into which Latvia and its people were dragged. The bars of the idiosyncratic tunnel of history characterize its various stages – sometimes our restrictions were quite tangible, whereas at other times they are almost invisible openworks. However, alongside redemptive light, visitors inevitably sense the constraining nature of each and every stage of the occupation. The path to light forms the sensory basis for further rational investigation – the supreme objective of the museum’s existence.
