Jānis Čakste (1859–1927) wrote the book “The Latvians and Their Latvia. What is the Latvian’s Voice” in 1917 in Sweden, with the aim of nurturing understanding about the legal and economic status of the Latvian people even before Latvia had been founded. Searches for the ideal nation are symbolically included in the book’s graphic language – the golden ratio format, structural network and graphic details. Associatively – straight lines, order, system, balance. Like Jānis Čakste, readers of the book are addressed warmly and respectfully, the expression of which is patriotic and democratic. The memorial publication has been published in the year of Jānis Čakste’s 160th anniversary, honouring his contribution to developing the idea of Latvia.
